Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit Munich?
Any time really! And when it comes to celebrating seasons, there are many festivities where you can participate. An all-time classic is definitely Oktoberfest. But please be aware that hotel prices will be very high then, also during the big international fairs.
How cold does it get in Munich?
In wintertime, it is usually very cold. There can be sunshine, there can be rain, there can be snow, there can be a mix of all three. Anything is possible, so if you pack for lows around freezing temperature, you won’t do anything wrong.
What should I wear in winter time in Munich?
On most winter days, you may want to wear winter clothes and a woolen hat, scarf and gloves. Put on a coat, warm pants and boots. Generally, we suggest you wear layers that can be taken off when we go inside for food and drinks.
How hot does it get in the summer?
Summers in Munich are nice and warm, sometimes even hot – over 30°C (in the upper 80’s °F). Be ready for occasional thunderstorms, bringing heavy rains and a sudden drop in temperature. But thankfully, these events never last long.
We’d like to mention another phenomenon that is typical for Munich: Föhn, a warm and dry wind that descends from the Bavarian Alps in the south. On those days, you get exceptional views from Munich up to the mountains as the air becomes very clear.
So what should I wear in the summer?
Summer in the city can be really hot, so light summer clothing should be fine, maybe with a light jacket to cover you as it gets cooler in the evenings. But even in the heat of the summer, an umbrella can come in handy in case of sudden downpours. A hat to protect you from the sun is always a good idea in summertime.
